Shantiek Armstrong of Newark was identified by a Hackensack detective investigating shoplifting incidents, who noticed an ad on his Instagram page saying that he'd be at an Irvington event on Feb. 10, Captain Peter Busciglio said.
The Hackensack detectives responded to the event and set up surveillance, where they then observed a party matching the description, the captain said.
Upon being approached by the detectives, the suspect admitted to being Armstrong and was transported back to Hackensack, according to police.
Armstrong was charged with three accounts of shoplifting after denying the incidents, police said.
Armstrong is accused to shoplifting items with an estimated total value of $9,500 between Jan. 16 and Feb. 5, the captain said.
He also had several warrants from other jurisdictions and was transported to the Bergen County Jail, Busciglio said.
Police are still looking for a second suspect in the thefts.
The Millburn Detective Bureau and the BCPO assisted in the investigation, police said.
